Reverend Brenda Ann Brown is a woman of substance in the twenty-first century church She has contributed much to spiritual and secular leadership and is a respected figure amongst her peers.

Rev Brenda was born in South America, to parents, Henry Chester and Sylvia Chalmers Chester. In her early teenage years, she migrated to the United States, where she furthered her education to achieve a BS and MA respectively.

​

Rev Brenda came to faith as a teenager and is currently fulfilling the Lord’s plan for her life. During her time a member Of Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church for over twenty-nine years, she served as a missionary, a women’s fellowship minister, a trustee, a deacon,  a member of the adult choir and filled in other positions wherever needed.

​

In February 2015 Rev Brenda was awarded the NAACP Community Service Award and the Cambridge City Award for her work in the City of Cambridge. On April 26th 2015, Rev Brenda was installed as the Minister of the Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church (127 yrs.’ Black Historical Church City of Cambridge). She serves as the Executive Director of Project Manna (soup kitchen and food pantry) as well as being an active member of The Black Pastors Alliance Cambridge, MIA (Ministers in Action Boston).

Over the year Rev Brenda has always ministry with a secular career working for Raytheon Equipment Corporation and Boston College for seventeen years. Whilst also being an ardent activist, she served as the Co-chair of the Black Faculty Staff and Administrators Association (BFSAA) a resource for people of African descent at all levels of the Boston College community and as the Co-chair for Boston College Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program for which she is an active Committee Member. This committee focuses on embracing diversity, multicultural education, intercultural communication and understanding, and social justice.

​

Rev Brenda has a passion for health and wellbeing so serves on various health committees including the Dan Farber Cancer Centre, Ladies let’s talk {Wellness Support Group}. She is also an educational mentor and received a local government award for her work.

 

Rev Brenda is the wife of Deacon Carl (Rick) Brown, mother of two adult children, step-mother of four and grandmother of seven.
